Copenhagen: Water Everywhere
Copenhagen
Denmark
July 22. 2015
Dear Friends,
As its name implies, Copenhagen is a town that has a long history of international commerce and trade.
The name of the city reflects its origin as a harbour and a place of commerce. The original designation, from which the contemporary Danish name derives, was Køpmannæhafn, meaning "merchants' harbour", or Hafn or Havn ("harbour").
Wherever I walk, I find water: rivers and canals and the open sea.
And all around this city, I find an international atmosphere: the taxi driver is from India, the bus driver is from Turkey, the sandwich café is owned by two men from Egypt.
Just down the street is an Argentinean restaurant, a Sushi bar, an Indian restaurant, two vegetarian-vegan take-out shops, two pizza parlors and an Italian restaurant, two Sharma spots and three Thai restaurants.
The money exchange/Western Union stops are owned by folks from the Middle East and Albania.
My guest house is owned by two men from Bulgaria.
Just across the street is a Thai Massage spa!
So, Where do I eat?
Sailing, anyone?
By the way, I have met two lovely women: Camilla from Bergen, Norway, and Martha from Copenhagen. We had lunch!
