Northern State is the heart of Sudan, the heart of ancient area called Nubia.
The Kingdom of Kush ruled in Nubia from 785 BCE to 350 CE.
The Kushites have bequeathed to us their ancient Meroitic languages and their cultural and religious traditions.
Naqa is one of the best-preserved Kushite sites in Sudan. The site contains the Temple of Amun and the Lion Temple.
Musawwarat es Sufra, (Al-Musawarat Al-Sufra) is the largest set of Meroitic temple remains in Sudan. The highlights are the Elephant Temple and the one room temple dedicated to the lion god Apedemak.
