Noravank Monastery

Yeghegnadzor

Armenia

October 18, 2012

 Hello,

Robin, the receptionist at the Yerevan Delux Hotel, made what turned out to be an excellent suggestion.

Since my plan was to drive south from Yerevan, Robin recommended I visit the Noravank Monastery.

The Monastery sits high in the mountains but getting there was the best part of the trip.   Off the main highway, the drive took me through a deep and colorful valley at the base of a defile – a long narrow passage in the rocks.

The Monastery is perched on the side of a cliff overlooking the valley below.  The site is splendid and of course, spiritual.  (The monks and priests in this part of the world surely knew how to pick a site!)   The many visitors including groups of students maintained a calm and serious demeanor.

The ride down the cliff and through the defile once again provided an additional “spiritual” experience.
